Pam Ames retired from Synovus Financial Corp. after a 24-year career. Most of her time at Synovus was spent in the Finance Division as one of three developers and system administrators of the financial reporting system. She served in many project management roles as each system change and upgrade afforded a variety of opportunities from system design and testing to data management, report coding and training. These experiences contributed valuable hours and training required for PMI’s project management examination (PMP) that ultimately led to her certification in June of 2012. In 2017, she moved into the IT Division of Synovus where her project management skills contributed more broadly to the implementation of several application designs on the same platform that was then used by many other divisions of the company. Her retirement in December 2020 marked the end of her career.
Pam has been a long-time member of the Chapter and has served on the Board since 2013 in several roles: VP of Membership, VP of Governance, and President-Elect. Over the years, she has gained a greater understanding of Chapter leadership by attending PMI Leadership Institute Meetings (Global LIM), North America LIM and Regional LIM conferences. She most recently has been involved in developing a new program for the Columbus, Georgia Chapter in partnership with Columbus State University and United Way Community Partners. This program provides mentoring opportunities for Chapter members to work with college students in managing community projects. Organization leaders want to provide valuable project experience to the next generation with real outcomes that will make a difference in our community.
Outside of the Chapter, Pam serves in various capacities of church work. She has been married to Dr. Joel Ames for over 40 years and has 2 sons, 3 grandchildren, and 2 Labrador Retrievers. She enjoys gardening, playing cards, reading, and music.
